Ever wondered what a telecoms poodle is? Well a quick Google reveals its Comreg the Irish communications regulator.

Apparently Comreg has earned the name telecoms poodle after rolling over every time the Irish incumbent says “Boo!” Although in future that’ll be more like “G’Day Mate” since Babcock & Brown have taken over. Visions of a Crocodile Dundee figure entering Comreg’s headquarters and saying “Call that regulation” producing a blunt instrument and smacking Comreg employees over the head saying “Now THAT’S! regulation”

Ireland currently suffers from the highest line rent in Europe with consistent placement near the bottom of broadband league tables such as OECD reports.
