The alternative post title was going to be "And the winner of the worlds longest post is......"
He has posted the transcript/minutes of the Oireachtas meeting on broadband.
If you can't be bothered to read all of it, and it is a long read, scroll down to where eircom are interviewed and then fast forward to Comreg's bit.
Quotes include Dr. Nolan of eircom referring to Comreg as "Our friends"
Our prices are benchmarked by our friends in ComReg
at or below the EU average. I accept that we have more work to do.
Deputy Broughan doesn't quite call Comreg a poodle but points out Comreg not having progressed much and just repeating themselves ad nauseum. He also comments on the previous eircom team's batting average against Comreg.
Deputy Broughan: ComReg
is a peaceful Labrador. ComReg came has presented us with a document
dated 30 May 2006, setting out milestones. We have heard this many times.
We know there are issues to be discussed, which we will put to the political
master when he arrives, regarding the long-planned legislation that
has not appeared, to give the dog a reasonable set of teeth. Is there not a sense of
déjà vu about ComReg’s presentation today? It is always on the
verge of doing something. In the past year there has been a significant
improvement and 350,000 lines have been enabled but there is always
the promise that ComReg will do better in the future. Why did it not
use at least the little power that was available to it in recent years?A sea-change may come over
Eircom in two or three months’ time. Several Deputies on this committee
have met the incoming management and some of the promoters and so on.
The outgoing team ran rings around ComReg.
Damien has kindly uploaded a word doc version as well.
